I'm Bored, Play With Me

I'm bored! And lonely! Come over and eat brownies with me, and tell me your life story!

Or, I know: let's play a game! It's been a long time since we played A Year Ago Today, A Year From Now. Let's do that!

A year ago I had a 7-week old, two 2-year-olds, a 6-year-old, and an 8-year-old. I was struggling to find a good birth control option, starting a running program, and trying to reduce clutter.

A year from now I'll have a 2-year-old, two 4-year-olds, an 8-year-old, and a 10-year-old. I'll have thrown the birthday party I've been saying Rob could have when he turned 10, which I've been dreading as it goes from "so far in the future, who cares what I promise?" to "OMG, I really have to follow through on that?"

I'll probably still be battling clutter. I probably still won't be exercising regularly. We'll either have a second bathroom or be working on a second bathroom.

The biggest thing to me is, I wonder if/what we'll have decided on the "sixth baby" issue? I wonder if I might even be pregnant a year from now? Or, the way these things happen so fast, might the sixth baby already be on the scene? It really does continually amaze me that someone not even pregnant one year can have a 3-month-old one single year later.

Pay-it-Forward update:
Hello, Self is showing the giftie she got and starting a new contest.

A year ago I had a 1 1/2 year old, was unemployed and in a pretty dark place.
Now I have a 2 1/2 year old, am happily employed, and enjoying fun family outting with my son.
A year from now I will have a 3 1/2 year old (who is HOPEFULLY potty trained). I tend to go where the wind blows me...I wonder where it will blow me in the next year :)

It IS baffling, isn't it? One year ago I was waiting for my 4th imsemination attempt (7/27/07) and now a year later here I am with my beautiful 3 month old daughter.

Amazing the difference a year makes!

Part of me doesn't even want to think about where I'll be a year from now b/c this IS my last one and I can't bear the thought of no more babies. But the other part hopes like Hell that things have improved with SB. The last few months have been so hard. Hopefully our upcoming dr.'s appointment next month will bring some help.

A year ago, I had a 18-month old and was trying to lose the weight to get ready to have the second baby.

Now, I have a 27-month old and a 10-day old.

A year from now, I will have a one-year old and a 3-year old and will be desperately fighting the urge to have more babies because I miss their tiny toes and the way their head smells.

A year ago, I was ready to quit my job because of a horrible boss and getting really excited about a vacation with my husband. (The boss quit, and the vacation was awesome.)

A year from now, I will be a mother to an 8 or 9 month old baby! I can't even imagine what that will be like.

Nowheymama said...

A year ago I was the mother of an almost-six-year old, an 18 month old, and I was battling morning sickness. I was also enjoying the last Harry Potter book and getting ready for my sister's wedding.

A year from now I will be the mother of an almost-eight-year old, a three-and-a-half-year old, and an eighteen-month old.

And I will have published an award-winning dairy-free cookbook. (This would be the dream portion of the game.)

Holy crap...When I went to write my own little post (15 minutes ago), there was only 1 comment. You have quite the readership.

Here's my little blog entry: http://giselles2.blogspot.com/2008/07/year-agoa-year-from-now.html

If I actually knew how to use a computer, I could make that an actual link. Thanks for the idea...it was fun to think about!

A year ago, Jelly Bean was learning to walk and I was panicing about Brother starting the first grade. I was also still not over the fact that I couldn't be a stay at home mom.

A year from now, Jelly will be almost 3 and Brother will be going to the THIRD grade, which I can't freaking believe. And we will probably be trying for #3 and NOT hoping too hard for a girl. Because boys are great, too. Even if they don't wear frilly dresses.

A year ago, I had a four-month old and was living in Toronto and nervous about moving to a smaller city in (Ontario) wine country.

Now I am desperately trying to finish packing with my busy 16 month old so we can move into our first house on Friday! I guess we're staying in the smaller city.

A year from now my daughter will be closing in on 2 1/2 (yikes!) and we will know much more about the pros and cons of this home ownership thing. I might be considering going back to teaching - maybe part time? - by then.

I joined the fun...and realized my life has been/is/always will be INCREDIBLY BORING.

I would love to come have brownies. sigh.

A year ago I had a 6 1/2 year old, a 2 1/2 year old and two 6 month olds. I was still nursing, so attached to my couch, but life was a bit easier.

A year from now I will have an 8 1/2 year old, a 4 1/2 year old and two 2 1/2 year olds. And more gray hair. But maybe more sanity?

Last year I'd just gotten back from a great few vacation days with my husband. We were so happy in our life. Now we are even happier b/c we have a wonderful 4 month old, who is our little miracle. Never thought I'd have kids although I wanted them. We were blessed to adopt! I also ditched my full-time job to start my own business. It's been great. Next year I'll have a toddler who I'll being running after constantly! Hope next year brings as much joy as this year has.

I'd rather the brownies, but...

A year ago, I was ~3 mos pregnant with my daughter, my second and potentially last child (but probably not)and had a 16 month old son that was, and still is, a holy terror full of love. I was on summer vacation from school after having only taught 1 month since my son was born and was about to move into our new house with room for the new babe.

A year from now, I'd better not be pregnant! I'll be preparing to return to work and preparing my children for their dayhome. I'll have a 3 1/3 year old son and a 1.5 year old daughter and will be contemplating the potential 3rd & final baby. I will have had no income for a long time and will likely be in debt from staying home with my kids longer than we could afford but it will totally be worth it. I'll be looking forward to that first paycheck to help pay off things like the groceries we'll probably have to charge.

That was fun! ;-)

A year ago I had a bunch of kids (3 of my own and 2 steps) and I still have them all (they are currrently 11, 15, 17, 18, 19). I was working part-time and weighed in the low 130s and exercised a few times a few. A year from now I hope that the 2 oldest kids will have completed their first year of college successfully and that my oldest stepson will not be livng with us (EVER). I'll probably have all 4 big kids driving by then.
I hope to be employed at the same place, weighing about the same and still running. I'll turn 40 this year so next year I'll be firmly planted in my 40s and a lot more broke because of college tuition.

A year ago, I had a five-week-old baby that was finally coming out of his jaundice sleep and really staying awake and wanting to be held most of the time. I was dreading my return to work, afraid to go more than a block by myself with my infant, and struggling to stay on top of household chores.

A year from now, I'll be a SAHM with a two year old and a seven-month-old. I sure as heck won't be afraid to leave the house and I hope to still have the household chore rythem that keeps us afloat today.

Let's see:
A year ago, I was learning how to be a mother to my 2 1/2 month old son and loving every minute of it. (Except for the pumping, oh GOD, the pumping 8000 ounces a day! (We had latching issues so he would only take the bottle.) Apparently I STILL carry the guilt.)) I had just lost my beloved three-legged great dane to cancer and was thinking about anything but the comprehensive exams I needed to complete in the next year to get ABD (All But Dissertation) for my PhD program.
A year from now, I will have a two year old, who will no doubt be driving me crazy, but I will still love every minute of it. Hopefully, I will finally be ABD and have a new teaching job somewhere other than HERE and be getting ready to move to a real city in a real state.
Hmmm, next year sounds exciting. I hope it hurries up.

A year ago I was chained to the couch with my two-month-old and freaking out about working part time. A year from now I'll have a two-year-old, an almost one-year-old, I'll have lost all the baby weight and I'll still be freaking out about work because my husband will (hopefully) be starting grad school... And now I must go breathe into a paper bag.

Oh! Fun game! Hmmm. A year ago I was in the first trimester bleurrrrrghs, was working full time, and trying to convince my husband that he had the worst job on the planet (he was NEVER home). A year from now Alice will be 16 months old (WOW), I'll still be working part time from home (as I am now), and Chip will hopefully still be happy that he changed jobs and has more time with his girls.

This is so much fun!

A year ago, I had an 11 month old and I was DESPERATELY AFRAID of getting pregnant again ... fighting with my neighbors ... considering moving ... wanting my mother to be here.

A year from now, I'll have a 35 month old (that's almost 3 for those of you who are math-challenged) and a 4 month old ... I'll be back at work full time and sleep deprived. Should be fun!

A year ago I was doing very well with my eating and exercise. You and I had just discovered that our life calling might be Baby Name Consultants. I had a 6-year-old, a 4-year-old, and a 11-month old, and the baby was so clingy that the thought of another one gave me chills. Oh, and I'd just read the final Harry Potter book.

A year from now, I'll have an 8-year-old, a 6-year-old, and a 3-three old. And maybe a fourth baby? And maybe have plucked up my courage to submit a story somewhere for publishing? OH, and also maybe the new edition of The Baby Name Wizard possibly will be out? We can hope.

A year ago, I was three months pregnant and the first of our circle of friends to get knocked up. I was worrying how we were going to fit a baby into our tiny house and, for that matter, our life. But I was so excited to be pregnant. I hadn't even felt my son move and was reading how he was the size of some random vegetable or fruit.
A year from now, I'll have an 18-month-old. I might be pregnant with our second child. My son will be playing with the other two little boys born to our friends in the year after his arrival.

Interesting. A year ago, I had a 2 1/2 year old going on 12, I DESPISED my job (mostly my boss), was writing my memoir, was in school and working at the bar on weekends, and dated only occasionally.

A year from now, I'll hopefully have the same job as I have a new bosss, or no job because I won the lottery (positive thinking!), I will finally receive my MA degree, be making more $$$ (unless I win the lotto in which case: moot point), and will have an almost-five year old going on 15 and will be thankful that due to her birth date, I have another year before she enters kindergarten and I cry cry cry all day because my baby has grown up. I will hopefully be either still happily single as I am today, or have met someone I connect with in a healthy way.

A year ago today I thought that right now I'd be expecting my last little baby. I didn't know that I was holding my last little baby, last year.

This time next year I expect to be making more money, be almost over the no-more babies thing (almost), still have sassy hair, and be a better writer.

A year ago I had just lost my job, but was ok with that. It was summer and I was unemployed and living the the high life. We were about to start trying for a baby and I was really scared about the changes that would bring.

Now I have a job I like, but it is sometimes stressfull and includes a crappy commute. I am pregnant. I am really scared about the changes this will bring. But happy!

A year from now, I will hopefully still be off work. I will have GIVEN BIRTH. Whoa. I'll have a 6 month old. I have no idea what that life looks like.

Also, Swistle, yay for another bathroom! I can't believe you guys have 7 poepl sharing just ONE.

Must go sob now. It's too early for a cocktail so will have to go eat some dark chocolate M&Ms.

A year from now, I'll have a 2.1 yo child and perhaps be pregnant or have another 1.5 month old, who will hopefully sleep.

We may or may not have begun or finished the finishing of the basement and I may or may not have made it to next year's Blogher.

A year ago I was in the two week wait, just returned from a 3-week road trip with our then 7, 7, and 10 year olds. I was hating my job, especially the insanity that comes at the end of our fiscal year, where everyone's mistakes become my problem.

Next year I will have a 15-month old, two 9 year olds and a 12-year-old. My daughter will be about to enter the last year of elementary school (5th grade) and my stepson will hopefully have survived his first year of Jr, High. We will have made a decision about one more baby. I will hopefully either be in a new job I love or committed to making this one work for the sake of free college tuition.

I just finished my masters (Wooooo)

A year from now, my husband will be done with his masters. My 6 year old will be getting ready to start first grade (gulp) and my 3 year old will be getting ready to start the AWESOME preschool we eventually found for my son. And hopefully I will be nursing a new baby. (cross fingers)

Today, ENGAGED! (Wedding is on 3/10/09), in the process of buying our first home, still at the same job and LOVE it, my Etsy shop is doing freakishly well, I'm over 350 sales and I'm currently working on creating a line for boutiques in Australia!

In a year, hopefully I'll be knocked up! :) Don't have any desire to change the job or the shop, just hope both are continuing to grow and do well!

A year from now: I will have a 3 year old (who better still be napping. dare to dream!) and hopefully (?!?!) a second baby in my lap as I sit at this same computer and blog-surf.

A year from now, I'll have finished my first year working as an after school teacher (they hired me this time!). My girls will be 9 and 6, and probably will both be able to read.

It's interesting to think ahead, like this. I really don't have any lofty goals or plans for a year from now. Maybe it's time to think of some!

A year from now I will have a 2 year old and a 4 year old and will hopefully have made a fantastic trip out to Baltimore to visit my brother, will have seen my oldest complete her first year of pre-school, and will know what my youngest's voice sounds like when he says sentences! I was excited because they were putting a pool into our backyard.

A year ago from now, I will have graduated from teacher's college (April 2009), I will hopefully have some sort of teaching gig to look forward to for September and I'll be preparing for my classroom! This was a very interesting exercise. It makes me feel good to look back and see just how far I've come in the last year or so.

A year ago, I had an 8 (going on 9) month old who was just on the cusp of walking!!! His first steps were actually July 31, 2007. My husband worked afternoons, and I worked 9-1 everyday and there was no such thing as daycare in our world.

Today, I have a 20-month old who is in the throes of the terrible twos, just started potty training, and putting two words together. My husband has been on days for 2+ months, and we just started daycare while Grandma and Grandpa are out of town for the summer.

A year from now - I plan to be pregnant - how far along, I'm not sure. I either want a May or September baby, but can't decide. I hope to have found a job that lets me work from home, or have finally gotten the boss to cave in and let me do so. Grrr!

Wow - a year ago we were living in Malaysia, traveling up a storm and talking about getting pregnant.

A year from now I will have a 14 month old, we will be living in our new house that's currently being built (instead of the sucky corporate housing that we are currently in) and I'll hopefully be doing some consulting work from home. I'll still hate my hair and be finding excuses not to get on the treadmill.
