Generally my view on studio portraits is that there isn't much point before 6 months old. I'm not
opposed to earlier pictures, but the baby always looks all...
wadded up in them. And my babies are always a little
special with their physical development, so they're still fully floppers at, for example, 2.5 months, which is when I was hit with an overpowering urge to duck into JCP for a spontaneous walk-in appointment, and I did not resist.
Please note that the black satin baby speedo is
not something
I dressed him in, but rather the photographer's idea. I believe she wanted to remove the obviously way too big sleeper I'd unwisely dressed Henry in that day, not realizing I was going to be struck by the portrait bolt.

So CUTE!! He really looks like he's posing. And she got a smile too!!
What a happy baby! I like the sleeper too!
Wow, he's adorable. How does he compare to your other children at that age? Size-wise? Development wise? I'm just curious about comparisons in families, I guess. Cute cute pictures!
Oh my god he's so cute. I like the sleeper thing better than the baby speedo. Also, the more I look at all your pictures, the more I want a baby NOW NOW NOW even though I know it really won't make sense for at least two more years. Maybe I should stop reading quite as many blogs written by mothers of adorable babies.
It's a good thing you listened to your whim-voice. He's such a cutie!
They're all cute shots... but I LOVE that second one. So adorable.
cute! love them!!
how bout a portrait session with all the kiddies together? i know, i know, I don't have 5 kids so how could i be serious.
but really--we'd all enjoy the five kids together. especially if there is one crying, one pulling hair, one picking nose, one in pink boots, and one trying to run away! HA!
awwwww
I LOVE the little Speedo one. It's a little Al Bundy, like he's just kickin' back in the Laz-E-Boy.
And I LOVE the one on his belly, because he is WRINKLY! I love wrinkly!
I. Can't. Take. The. Wrinkles.
I want to eat him. With pie and ice cream.
i would comment right now, but i can't because i am DEAD. FROM THE CUTE.
Awwww! He is adorable. I love it that they are floppy and "waddled" up...that is what makes them newborns! I can almost tell what he is going to look like as a big kid.
When I saw the title of this entry I thought it was going to be a portrait of YOU!
His expression in the one where he's on his belly is absolutely priceless.
He is so cute. I'm really starting to get jealous of his absurd cuteness. Somewhere is an ugly baby, because he got a double dose of adorable.
I think the third one is my favorite, because he looks like he's saying, "MOM! Get me out of here!"
Very cute!
OMG - the third picture is so freaking adorable that my ovaries are begging me for a little boy baby, which is not possible because we are d-o-n-e.
Awww....he is so sweet! I do agree about the baby speedo. I'm not a big fan of naked baby pictures. I have a few of Sarah at about 3.5 months, because the photographer suggested it, but not really a favorite. Probably not something I will repeat.
Awww, he doesn't look wadded up at all! And that speedo idea is genius.
Oh my gosh, I'm seriously melting here. Those cheeks are adorable!
Stop it, you're making my uterus hurt.
So cute. Now me, I love me a naked baby picture, but your children will be spared the "there's a naked photo of me on the wall" humiliation that mine will suffer.
He is too cute for words!
That pouty lip in the third one! I love it!
When I saw the title of this, I saved it for last on my google reader; because I like to save the best for last, like the cookie with the most chocolate chips, for instance. I, too, thought it would be portraits of you, but I love me some baby pictures just as much.
This is so timely because I have been wondering where to take my 6-month-old for her portraits. If Swistle takes her babies to JCP, it must be good quality and affordable.
Also; Your kids are just the cutest. I'm dying here.
he is so delish!
I can't believe you got such a big smile in that first picture, from a 2 1/2 month old baby! Congrats!
I'm with you- usually in our house, any portrait studio experience as newborns does not go well. And the "high end" studios are just a little... overwhelming to deal with, while dealing with a newborn. I'm always reluctant to shell out the cash, then regretful that I didn't...
That said, these pictures turned out so good! He is beautiful! I love Henry pictures. Love, love, love. But it gives me fierce baby want. And also baby BOY want.
Mommy Daisy- Good question! I'll do a post on that sometime soon.
Mrs. M- I once--ONCE--took all four kids (this was before Henry) to have their picture taken together. Ten gallons of sweat and adrenaline later, we had one picture I could barely pay $8 to buy the package of, and I was tempted to say, "You know what, these ALL suck, never mind," but I wasn't sure if that was allowed. So now I take candids of the crew all together, and do professional shots only in ones and twos!
Cari- I do love JCP! Every so often we have a total stinker of a session, but mostly I'm happy. It depends a lot on the photographer. Oh, and make sure you get coupons on the JCP website.
Well he's just precious! We don't have JCP portrait studios here, only Sears and they are terrible.
I'm interested to hear the answer to Mommy Daisy's question.
Lovely, lovely, lovely. Cute photos like these almost counteract the images I have of birthing scenes watching too much TLC. I especially love the black speedo ones! (And, if I had a dollar for everytime I typed that...)
Oh. Mason had that sleeper, it's one of my favorites!!! Those are cute. I like when they're all floppy. It's something to hold on to when they're running around the house unplugging appliances.
He. Is. Too. Cute. I don't know how you find the time to take him to get his picture taken; please share. My poor second child (who has never had his picture taken professionally) will benefit from your wisdom.
Simply beautiful!
Jana- The only way I pulled it off was by being at the mall already, noticing Henry was in an amiable mood, and impulsively going to see if JCP had a walk-in appointment available. Otherwise I find the whole "calling for an appointment, planning all meals/diapers around an appointment, choosing an outfit for the appointment, getting to the appointment on time" stuff almost insurmountable.
Swistle, I hate to break it to you, but I no longer want to marry you. I no longer want Maddie to marry Henry, either.
I want him all to myself. He's so yummy that I cannot stand it!
Holy crap, your kid is cute! He almost makes me want to gestate another one myself. Ok, not really but, did I mention, holy crap! Your kid is cute!
I'm so glad to hear that I'm not the only one who can't get the hang of scheduling events around several nap/meal/diaper schedules. Thanks for the tip on getting pictures taken "on the fly." My son thanks you, too.
Oh dear God, he is CUTE!
Jana, be sure to carry a "portrait outfit" in his diaper bag and you'll always be prepared!
I'm never going to schedule portraits for Maddie again. The whole morning was stressful because she wouldn't cooperate with naps and such.
Those are great! Oh, he is so so big! And HANDSOME. And CUTE. Such a little guy. Oh! Love him!
Awwww - so gorgeous! I love the first one, with that little smile.
The third picture is so sweet... His little scrunched up face...
Look at that smile! So precious.
I am so in love with little Henry right now....
He is absolutely DELICIOUS. If I wasn't pregnant yet I'd probably be in tears aching for another one. Wait, so why am I getting all misty-eyed looking at these photos? Can we say HORMONES?!
awww...he is soooo cute!
I love spontaneity!!
I am in shock over how big and how much older he looks. The pictures are beautiful, by the way. I find I have officially forgotten how fast they change in those first months.
These are truely wonderful. I love baby pictures. These kids, they grown up too damn fast.
Sooooooo sweet!!!!! I LOVE baby photos!
Did you get Paul matching speedos, too? ;)
Delicious!!
CUTIE!!!
